AI Scribe
Your privacy matters
Our practice uses Lyrebird, an Australian healthcare AI documentation assistant, to help your doctor prepare accurate clinical notes during your consultation.
The purpose of Lyrebird is to assist with note-taking only. It does not make medical decisions, diagnose conditions or replace your doctor.
How does it work?
With your permission, Lyrebird listens to the conversation between you and your doctor and prepares a draft clinical note. Your doctor then:
Reviews every note
Carefully reviews every note.
Corrects any errors
Corrects anything that isn't right.
Adds clinical detail
Adds any important clinical information.
Decides what's recorded
Decides what is included in your medical record.
Your GP remains fully responsible for the accuracy of your medical record.
How is my information protected?
According to Lyrebird's published privacy information:
- Your consultation is processed on secure Australian servers.
- Audio is transcribed in real time and is not permanently stored.
- Your information is not used to train AI models.
- Data is encrypted and handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act.
- Only authorised members of your healthcare team can access your medical record.
Why does our practice use Lyrebird?
Using an AI scribe helps your doctor:
- Spend more time looking at and listening to you instead of typing.
- Reduce administrative workload.
- Prepare more complete clinical documentation.
- Focus on providing high-quality patient care.
Is this recommended by the RACGP?
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has published guidance on the use of AI scribes in general practice. The RACGP advises that practices:
- obtain patient consent,
- ensure appropriate privacy and security protections are in place,
- review all AI-generated notes for accuracy, and
- recognise that the treating GP remains responsible for the final clinical record.
The RACGP does not endorse or recommend any particular AI scribe product.
Do I have to agree?
No. Your consent is always requested before Lyrebird is used.
If you would prefer not to have Lyrebird assist during your consultation, simply let your doctor know. Your care will not be affected, and your consultation will continue without the AI scribe.
